The sorter compares whole lines and recognizes embedded numbers, placing “Chapter 2” before “Chapter 10.” Equal items retain their original relative order.

Which sorting mode should I use?
| Mode | Useful for |
|---|---|
| A–Z or Z–A | Names, titles, tags, URLs, and spreadsheet columns |
| Numeric | Lines that each contain only a valid number |
| Length | Headlines, keywords, strings, and word-game lists |
| Reverse | Flipping an existing priority or chronological order |
| Random | Creating a fresh non-deterministic sequence |
How alphabetizing works
The alphabetical modes use the browser's locale-aware collation rather than comparing raw character codes. Case-insensitive mode groups ordinary capitalization variants together. Results can vary slightly between language environments, so use a spreadsheet or database with a fixed locale when identical cross-system ordering is required.

Frequently asked questions
Can I alphabetize names by last name?
This tool sorts each complete line from its beginning. Put the surname first—such as “Patel, Asha”—before sorting when surname order is required.
Can I sort comma-separated items?
The tool treats each line as one item. Convert commas to line breaks first, or place one item on each line.
Does removing duplicates ignore case?
Yes. The optional deduplication treats capitalization variants as the same while retaining the first version.
