How to use Polynomial Root Finder on a TI-89

  1. Open the app. Press APPS, highlight the Polynomial Root Finder entry, and press ENTER.
  2. Start a new problem. Choose New, then select the polynomial degree.
  3. Enter the coefficients. Fill an, an−1, through a0. Use 0 when a power is missing.
  4. Solve. Select the on-screen Solve command to display the roots.
  5. Graph if useful. The official app can save the polynomial to the Y= Editor so it can be viewed in the calculator’s graph environment.
Key-entry note: use the calculator’s dedicated negative key when entering a negative coefficient, as the TI guide instructs. It is not the same key as binary subtraction.
