How Number System Conversion Works
A positional numeral system uses powers of its base. Binary uses powers of 2, octal powers of 8, decimal powers of 10, and hexadecimal powers of 16. To interpret an input, multiply each digit by its place value and add the terms. To produce a new base, repeatedly divide by that base and collect the remainders.
The calculator uses exact integer arithmetic, so large values are not rounded. Spaces and underscores are ignored. It supports negative integers, but not fractional digits or decimal points.
Convert Decimal 310 to Base 6
Divide 310 by 6 to get quotient 51 and remainder 4. Divide 51 by 6 to get quotient 8 and remainder 3. Divide 8 by 6 to get quotient 1 and remainder 2. Finally, divide 1 by 6 to get quotient 0 and remainder 1. Reading the remainders upward gives 1234.
Check the place values: 1×6³ + 2×6² + 3×6 + 4 = 216 + 72 + 18 + 4 = 310.
